Meet the Directors

Jon Mayson, Chairman

The former Chair of New Zealand Trade and Enterprise, Mayson, holds a number of Chair positions and has an
impressive record of directorships with both public and private businesses, from the state sector through to
the commercial sector, from small to large.
Well respected in the business community, Mayson brings strong governance and business expertise with
a tireless commitment to achieving growth, business innovation and an inclusive leadership style that will
complement the Fronde board.
“I am delighted to be able to contribute my skills and experience as Fronde continues to grow and realise its
full potential,” says Mayson.
Wayne Norrie has stepped down from Chair in a move driven by a personal desire to spend more time out
of Wellington, but will remain a director of the company. Norrie says he has thoroughly enjoyed his time as
Chairman and looks forward to continuing to assist the company as a director.
“Fronde has a bright future, founded on a solid strategy of being continually relevant to our customers and
market, with great people and culture,” says Norrie.
The Board thanks outgoing Chair, Wayne Norrie for his valuable contribution to the operation of Fronde and
for steering it through a period of significant change.
Prior to moving into the Fronde Chair role, Mayson was CEO of Port of Tauranga Ltd between 1997 and 2005
and concurrently Chief Executive of Northport Ltd from its establishment in 2001 through until 2004.
Under his leadership, the Port of Tauranga grew to be New Zealand’s largest export port and established its
Metro Port operation in Auckland - the country’s first inland port. It was an early adopter of “triple bottom
line” reporting - demonstrating the company's social, environmental and economic sustainability.
Mayson’s leadership style and achievements at the Port of Tauranga were the subject of international
case research by Darden Business School, University of Virginia, and published in the Harvard Business
Review. Mayson is a member of the Institute of Directors, and was a Fellow of the New Zealand Institute of
Management.
